Richard "Rick" Scott

With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Richard "Rick" Scott, who left this world on Monday, June 1, 2026 at the age of 72. Born on Tuesday, April 20, 1954, in Bonne Terre, Mo. to the late Otis Melvin and Anna Vivane (Gibson) Scott, Rick was a lifelong resident of the area and a man deeply loved by his family, friends, and all who knew him.

Rick graduated from West County High School in 1972 and went on to work at Chrysler Corporation for several years. Afterwards he began a career at Saint-Gobain (Ardagh Group) in Pevely, Mo. where he dedicated 35 years of service as a Process Specialist and Trainer. His commitment to his work and his remarkable problem-solving skills earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues and friends alike. Rick was an incredibly creative and resourceful craftsman, often modifying and building tools to make the work of the plant more efficient. His capable and meticulous hands even built his own home, a reflection of how he applied an unparalleled work ethic and skill in all things he did.

Beyond his professional achievements, Rick found joy in being outdoors with the people he loved. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, driving his boat and ATVs, and spending time woodworking. In his younger years, he loved playing basketball and was a life-long fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and Blues. Above all, Rick’s greatest pride was his family.

He is preceded in death by his brother, Michael Scott. He is survived by the love of his life, Debbie (Stegall) Scott; children: Tamara (Alan) Coleman, Paula Scott, Derrick (Camille) Scott, Nicole Scott (Kevin Sansoucie), Karla (Mike) Boatman, and Scott Eddings; grandchildren, Teren (Erica) Burns, Ty (Tonya) Burns, Tanden Burns (Maddie Halter), Bailey Coleman (Levi Reynolds), Ezra (Hailey) Sidebottom, Saydee Sidebottom, Brea Ward, Evangeline Scott, Amelia Scott, Arthur Scott, Kobe Petrie (Anzlie Bearden), Kylea Boatman, Kyra Eddings, Remmie Eddings, and Mason Eddings; great-grandchildren, Huxley Burns, Ryler Burns, Eymerson Ramo, Cayde Ramo, Valerie Sidebottom, Ezra J. Sidebottom, Oakley Petrie, Lakelynn Petrie, Waylon House, Athena Neely, Milo Eddings, and Krue Eddings; niece and nephew, Tina Scott, and Mikey Scott (Mary Grace); many dear friends, cousins, other family, and his beloved four-legged friend Koda.

Visitation will be held at C. Z. Boyer & Son Funeral Home in Desloge, Mo. on Monday, June 15, 2026, from 5:00 - 8:00 PM. Visitation will resume on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at the funeral home at 9:00 AM until the funeral service at 11:00 AM with Rev. Randy Murphy officiating. Burial to follow at Bonne Terre Cemetery. 

Rick will be remembered for his kind heart, generous spirit, and the steady love and support he gave so freely to those around him. To his family and friends, he was someone you could always count on — whether you needed help fixing something, a listening ear, or simply his quiet and assuring presence. He had a way of bringing people together and making them feel at home, and his memory will live on in the many lives he touched.
