James Richard Hulsey, affectionately known as Rick, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, December 19, 2025, at the age of 66. He was born in Ogden, Utah, on November 1, 1959, to Charles Brownie and Phyllis Ann (Reese) Hulsey.
Rick was preceded in death by his father, Charles Hulsey; brother-in-law; Harry Holcomb; uncle, Paul Hulsey; grandparents, Hubert and Alma Hulsey, William “Bill” and Zelma (Miller) Reese; and cousin, Wilda Wilkins.
Rick dedicated his life to both family and work, growing up on the family farm alongside his father, mother, and sister. His strong work ethic culminated in a successful career at Edge Manufacturing in Pevely, Missouri, where he served as a supervisor. His commitment to his job and the friendships he formed reflected the same warmth and dedication he brought to all aspects of his life.
Outside of his professional endeavors, Rick was a passionate individual who cherished the simple joys in life. He loved farming and had a deep interest in researching his family's history, always eager to share stories and connect with others. Rick's sharp wit and wonderful sense of humor were a source of joy to his friends and family, as he always found a way to make people laugh. Rick enjoyed spending his time at auctions, antique stores, and flea markets, treasures he often discovered becoming part of his cherished memories. He also found peace and happiness with his dogs, Lucy and Buster along with his cats, riding horses, working with cattle, connecting with nature in a way that brought him much joy.
Rick is survived by his loving mother, Phyllis Hulsey; his devoted sister, Stacy (Hulsey) Holcomb; cousin, Darren Wilkins, who was more like a brother along with several aunts, uncles, cousins, and many special friends.
Visitation will be held at C. Z. Boyer & Son Funeral Home in Desloge on Monday, December 22, 2025, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Visitation will resume Tuesday, December 23, 2025, from 9:00 AM until service time of 12:00 Noon at the funeral home. Burial to follow at Parkview Cemetery in Farmington. Memorials if desired can be made to Farmington Pet Adoption Agency in Farmington.
