Robert J. Stevens, 80, of Irondale, passed away Thursday, June 13, 2013 at his residence. He was born January 28, 1933 in Leadington. He served his country in The United States Army, was a member of the VFW, Local 395 ?? Iron Workers of Northwest Indiana, and worked for American Bridge Construction Company US Steel, for 47 years, and traveled, in his work, throughout the country. Bob got to enjoy many things after retiring such as, his daughter, grandchildren, brothers and sisters, fishing, reading, collecting many things and storytelling. He is preceded in death by parents, Earl and Dulcie (Pirtle) Stevens, and one brother, Jack Richard Stevens.Bob is survived by daughter, Michelle Hart of Bonne Terre; two grandchildren, Kristen Hart and Matthew Hart; four sisters, Mary Stevens, Ruth Stevens, Patsy (Mrs. Barry) Shelton all of Valparaiso, IN, and Jane (Mrs. Rick) Fritschle of Flora, IL; seven brothers, Joe Stevens of Lake Station, IN, Jacob "J.B." (Rita) Stevens of Irondale, Earl Stevens of Antioch, TN, Buck (Tomi) Stevens of Hobart, IN, Micheal (Bonnie) Stevens, David (Christen) Stevens, both of Farmington, and Ronald (Melanie) Stevens of Demotte, IN; special friend/son, Ed (Jessica) Payne; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Bob will be sadly missed by all who knew him.Visitation will beheld at C.Z. Boyer and Son Funeral Home in Desloge, Friday, June 14, 2013, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM.The service will be held, Saturday, June 15, 2013 at 1:00 PM, in the C.Z. Boyer and Son Chapel, with Rev. Mike Barton officiating. Interment will follow at Big River Cemetery.
