Roger Dale Helms, Sr. of Arcadia, Missouri passed away on June 23, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was 72 years old. Roger was born May 15, 1949, in Bismarck Missouri, to the late Orville Edward and Mazel Minerva (Barton) Helms. Roger is survived by his six children: Kimberly Zimmerle of Independence, Missouri; Roger Helms, Jr. (Wendy) of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; Randall Helms (Rebecca) of Park Hills, Missouri; Brenda Helms of Arcadia, Missouri; Amanda Browers (Shawn) of Lesterville, Missouri; and Amy Helms of Arcadia, Missouri. Since 2013 Roger has shared his life with a very special lady, his best friend and companion, Jean Barton. This relationship gave him three bonus children: Robert Barton (Kim) of Ironton, Missouri, Sarah Williams (Todd) of Ironton, Missouri, and Mary Wadlow (Joe) of Fredericktown, Missouri. Roger has three surviving brothers: Orville Helms (Kay) of Farmington, Missouri; Kevin Helms (Mary) of Oates, Missouri; and Billy Helms of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; and six surviving sisters: Linda Fahland of Bismarck, Missouri; Peggy Keenan of Bismarck, Missouri; Janet Helms of Bismarck, Missouri; Brenda Conway (Ron) of Bismarck, Missouri; Toni Wilson of Desloge, Missouri; Nancy Buffington (Tom) of Caledonia, Missouri; brother-in-law, Bill Canada; sixteen grandchildren, ten bonus grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. In addition to his parents, Roger was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda (Harbison) Helms; his brother, Harvey Helms; his sister, Novie Canada, Jean’s son, Eric Wadlow Sr., and his two brothers-in-law; Clyde Keenan and John Fahland. Roger proudly served our country in the United States Army. He worked for Brown Shoe Factory and he also did tree work for Shade Tree and Townsend Tree Services. Roger was known as “The lawnmower guy” doing small engine repair for many people. He enjoyed doing things with his hands such as wood working. Roger also enjoyed camping and fishing. He loved to play the guitar and played many hours with friends and family. Roger loved to pick on people and make everyone laugh. He always put others first and was willing to give advice even if you didn’t like the answer he gave. Above all else Roger enjoyed spending time with his family and he will be missed by all who knew him.
