Roy Edwin Mason formerly of Wright City, Missouri passed away June 29, 2022, at The Baptist Home in Ironton, Missouri. He was the son of the late William and Chloe (Patillo) Mason. He was born in Honersville, Missouri February 16, 1926. On November 20, 1948, he was united in marriage to Betty Jean (Fish) Mason who survives. To this union three children were born: Larry Mason who preceded him in death, Ronnie Mason (Shelli) of Wright City, Missouri, and Marilyn Thomas (Rank) of Minden, Louisiana. Roy is also survived by his brother, Don Mason of Port Angeles, Washington, his sister, Ruby Oliver of Weirsdale, Florida, his daughter-in-law, Thanh of Indianapolis, Indiana, seven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition to his parents and son, Roy was preceded in death by his brother, Doyle Mason, and six sisters: Tess Woods, Gerry Backus, Irene Barlow, Dorothy Westmorelan, Clara Hicks, Gayle Taramarcaz, and Dorie Finkbeiner. Roy proudly served his country during World War II in the United States Navy. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. in Wright City. He was a member of the First Baptist Church for 55 years in Wright City Missouri where he served as a Deacon. He also sang in the church choir and taught Sunday School. Roy was a member of the Gideon Society. Roy worked as the Chief Shop Mechanic from 1966 until 1986 for the Missouri Department of Transportation. After he retired in 1986, he continued his love for hunting and fishing, and he volunteered for Meals on Wheels. He loved to garden and was still raising a large garden when he was in his 90’s. He was a great builder and could build or fix most anything. More than anything he loved spending time with his wife and family. Roy will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. from Bryson Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Wills officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service. Interment with full military honors will be held following the service at The Baptist Home Cemetery. Memorials may be made to The Baptist Home.
