Ruby Virginia (LaChance) Canterberry, age 94, passed peacefully into the presence of her Lord on June 28, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of faith, family, and faithful service.

Ruby was born on October 13, 1931, in Mine La Motte, Missouri, to John Walter LaChance and Katie Mae (Miller) LaChance. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Alma Irene Moore, Mildred Evelyn Mullins, and Linda Marie LaChance; and her brothers, Harold Cletus LaChance Helen Maxine Umfleet and John Wayman LaChance. She is survived by one brother, Darrell Burette Lachance.

On April 26, 1951, Ruby married the love of her life, Harry Edgar Canterberry who preceded her in death. Together they built a loving home and shared many years of marriage while raising their family.

She is survived by her children: Harry Dwayne Canterberry, Raymond Lee Canterberry, Janis Marie (Canterberry) Zobrisky, John William Canterberry, and Jeffrey Craig Canterberry, cherished pets Roxie and Muffin.

Ruby was also blessed with twelve grandchildren: Lisa, Christy, Angela, Travis, Teresa, Jason, Justin, Amanda, Jeremy, Craig, Aaron, and Adam, along with many great-grandchildren.

A devoted Christian, Ruby was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Knob Lick. She served the Lord with gladness through her involvement in Sunday School and Vacation Bible School and was always willing to fill in at the piano whenever there was a need. Her quiet faith and servant’s heart were evident to all who knew her.

Ruby attended Flat River Junior College and Southeast Missouri State Teachers college in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. She began her career in education by teaching at Mountain Oak School and Cartee School. Later she served as a substitute teacher whenever needed at her hometown school in Knob Lick, Missouri. Although she enjoyed teaching, her greatest calling and deepest joy was being a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. She lovingly cared for her family, creating a home filled with warmth, hospitality, and Christian values.

She found great pleasure in the simple blessings of life. Ruby enjoyed traveling with her family, reading, quilting, raising flowers, creating beautiful floral arrangements, ceramics, embroidery, canning and camping. Through these hobbies she expressed both her creativity and her love for family and friends.

Ruby will be remembered for her unwavering faith, gentle spirit, generous heart, and steadfast love for her family. Her life was a testimony of quiet strength, faithful service, and Christian devotion. Though she will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her, they rejoice in the assurance that she is now at home with her Savior, reunited with loved ones who have gone before her.

Her memory will continue to be treasured by her family and all whose lives she touched.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at C. Z. Boyer & Son Funeral Home – Taylor Chapel. The funeral service will be at 12:00 pm with Reverand John Canterberry officiating. Interment will follow at Knob Lick Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Iron Mountain Baptist Church Parking Lot Fund.
