Samuel Leo Brooks of St. Louis, Missouri passed away December 23, 2022 at his home at the age of 94 years. He was born October 9, 1928 in Goodwater, Missouri the son of the late William Albert and Essie Gladys (Hill) Brooks. On April 1, 1948 he was united in marriage to Mary Louise Boring who preceded him in death on March 25, 2017. To this union three children were born: Linda Sherwin, Barbara Matchick (Greg) and Greg Brooks (Cindy) all of St. Louis, Missouri. Sam is also survived by eight grandchildren: Catherine Sherwin, Michael Sherwin (Agatha), Christopher Sherwin, Brett Brooks (Jessica), Brian Brooks (Hadassah), Erica Johnson (Phillip), Elyse Brooks, and Brittany Brooks, thirteen great grandchildren: Karl Schwegmann, Emily Schwegmann, Elizabeth Schwegmann, Kate Schwegmann, Autumn Putnam, Stella Putnam, Emma Putnam, Westley Sherwin, Genevieve Sherwin, Griffin Brooks, Lily Brooks, and Adelaide Johnson, Avalee Johnson, two great great grandchildren: Penny Koellner and Theodore Brooks Koellner as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition to his parents and his wife, Sam was preceded in death by six siblings: Elsee Louanna Brooks, Ruby Bernice Crocker, William Levi Brooks, Ralph Eugene Brooks, Claude Leeman Brooks, and Herman Lee Brooks, and his granddaughter: Jennifer Putnam. Sam enjoyed reading, gardening, and adult coloring. He was also a great storyteller and enjoyed telling stories about his business career and life growing up on a farm during the Depression. During his business career he worked in various sales and managerial positions in the meat packing industry, became a small business owner and late in his career he took up HVAC. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 30, 2022, at 12:00 Noon from Bryson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
