Samuel Luther Reed of Pilot Knob, Missouri passed away October 6, 2016 in St. Louis, Missouri at the age of 78 years. He was born April 27, 1938 in Waterloo, Illinois the son of the late Luther Thomas and Ressie Jane (Crocker) Reed. On December 13, 1975 he was united in marriage to Gloria Sue Sutton who survives. Also surviving are his sons; Samuel Steven Reed and wife, Susie of Stella, Missouri, Kevin Lee Reed and wife Laura of Arcadia, Missouri, Timothy Mark Reed and wife Pauline of Atlanta, Georgia, and Christopher Scott Rayfield and wife Jennifer of Kansas City, Missouri, fourteen grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, two great grandchildren on the way as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many friends. Sam was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Reed and his four sisters; Alma Reichert, Nina McCloud, June Stevens, and Bonnie Reed. Sam was a 1956 graduate of Ironton High School. He was a member of Grace Christian Fellowship Church. He worked at TCS Lumber yard until he purchased it in January 1973. Sam was the owner of Reed and Reed Lumber until he retired. Even after his retirement one of his favorite things to do was go to the lumber yard and visit with friends and customers. Sam enjoyed watching the Cardinals on TV and going to Busch Stadium for games. In his retirement, he enjoyed riding around town in his golf cart and taking his grandchildren and great-grandchildren for rides when they visited. Sam is described by his friends as "a really good man", and will be remembered by his family as a great husband and father. He was also well-respected in his community for his hard work, honesty, and integrity. His striking blue eyes and belly laughs drew everyone to him, and made them want to listen to the stories he told from his life. He was truly a "big kid". Yet he was always aware that the most important thing in life was his family, and he was grateful to God for his blessings. He will truly be missed by all that knew him.
