Shirley Ann Mund Wilkinson was born on December 3, 1934 in Bonne Terre to the late William (Bill) Byington and Rose Byington. She was the youngest of eight children – five brothers and two sisters: Sam, Ray, Ernest (Dutch), Leonard, Lester, Mary Ellen Yancey and Helen Olson. All preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by two nephews, Raymond (Dink) Byington, and James (Jim) Weiss. She leaves behind two sisters-in-law, Barb Mund and Donna Byington; one brother-in-law, Norman Olson and several nieces and nephews.
Shirley graduated from Bonne Terre High School and quickly after graduation married Lehman Mund. She chose a good mate and a good man but Lehman died in 1984. Shirley was fortunate and married another good man, Milburn Wilkinson, who also preceded her in death. She leaves three step-daughters and their families from this marriage.
Shirley passed away at Presbyterian Manor which had been her home for more than 10 years. Before her death, Shirley told us that she had asked Jesus if she could be a “big” angel in heaven but he told her she could be a little angel, but not a big one. She was satisfied with His decision.
Visitation will be Wednesday, December 4, 2019 from 9:30 am until time of the service at 11:00 am at the C.Z. Boyer & Son – Taylor Chapel in Farmington. Shirley will be buried beside Lehman at Marvin Chapel Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Marvin Chapel United Methodist Church. Many members of the church were kind and supportive of Shirley for the years she was at Presbyterian Manor.
