Thelma Shaw

Thelma A. Shaw, a beloved mother, grandmother and friend, passed away on April 13, 2024, at the age of 97. Born on October 15, 1926, in Attica, NY to the late Matthew and Florence (Stone) Hubbard. Thelma dedicated many years of her life to providing support and assistance as a secretary at the Office for Aging. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Pleasanton, Texas and a member of the Eastern Star of Poteet, Texas.  Her commitment to helping others and her bright smile touched the lives of many in the community.  Thelma's dedication to her work and her gentle spirit were evident to all who had the pleasure of crossing paths with her.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Sam Smith; second husband, Newton Shaw; son, James Smith; three brothers, Clyde Hubbard, Robert Hubbard, Norman Hubbard; and two sisters, Nancy Lever and Ruth Shaw.

Thelma is survived by five children, Michele Mercado, Jean (Michael) Pestlen, Dianne (Ronald) Janish, Scott (Teresa) Shaw, Sandra (Charlie) Schaub; thirteen grandchildren, Andrea (Matthew) Gresens, Jessica (Britton) Caldwell, Joshua (Angela) Gresens, Noelia Mercado, Prenda Mercado, Rebecka Camp, Carrie (Kerry) Baxter, Elizabeth (Dustin) George, Megan Miller, Cory (Gabrielle) Shaw, Jacob Staufenberger, Clayton Schaub, Caryn Peeples; fifteen great-grandchildren, Ashton Prince, Chay Grooms, Cordell Gresens, Dylan Gresens, Lyza Camp, Tim Camp Jr., Dylan Baxter, Patrick Baxter, Anna George, Kate George, Allie George, Michael Miller, Ryan Miller, Sophia Shaw, Tristan Peeples; two great-great-grandchildren, Legend Camp and Legacy Camp.

A celebration of life to honor Thelma's life and legacy will be held at a later date in New York. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Shriners Children’s Hospital of Olean, New York, an organization close to Thelma's heart, in her memory. Arrangements are under the direction of C.Z. Boyer & Son Funeral Home – Taylor Chapel in Farmington.
