Vernon Lee Cook of Desloge, age 91, passed away, November 27, 2014 at his residence. He was born November 8, 1923 in Bonne Terre. He was raised on the Cook family farm, established in 1891, east of Desloge, where they raised beef cattle and remains in the family today. He was a World War II Navy Veteran, having been engaged in 7 major battles in the South Pacific. His working career consisted of St. Joe Minerals, Pea Ridge Iron Ore Co., and Meramec Mining, where he served as Chief Clerk/Office Manager. Vernon was a 50 year retired member of Ionic Lodge #154 AF & AM and he was a member of Desloge First Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Belle (Goodfellow) Cook; two brothers, Raymond and Leon Cook; and one sister, Glady's Halbrook. Vernon is survived by his loving wife Margie (Blunt) Cook; two sons, Kevin Cook and wife Jane of Bonne Terre, Keith Cook and wife Debra of Scottsdale, AZ; one sister, Ada (Thomasson) Turley of Jackson; four granddaughters, Melissa (Cook) Bollinger, Sarah (Cook) McFarland, Justis (Cook) Charay, and Elysia (Cook) Francis; one grandson, Christian Cook; seven great-grandchildren, Jake and Kylee Bollinger, Eli, Caleb and Claire McFarland, Johnathan Charay, Xavier and Simeon Francis; twenty nieces and nephews; seventy-two great nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at C.Z. Boyer and Son Funeral Home in Desloge, Monday, December 1, 2014 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The service will be held in the C.Z. Boyer and Son Chapel at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, December 2, 2014 with Pastor Bradford Laubinger officiating. Interment will follow at St. Francois Memorial Park in Bonne Terre.
