It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Virgie E. Shibley, who departed this life peacefully on Sunday, December 21, 2025, at the age of 100. She was born on Friday, April 17, 1925, in Flat River to the late James and Effie Dorris.
Along with her parents, Virgie was preceded in death by her loving husband, Alex Shibley; son, Michael Shibley; daughter, Marian Umfleet; siblings, Etta Keyton, Freda Burkman, Carie Ferguson, Octa Dush, Sadie Werley, Lessie Craft, James Dorris, Norma Montgomery, Betty Reddick and Margaret Dorris.
Virgie dedicated her life to her loved ones, serving as a devoted homemaker and caregiver. Over the years, she contributed to her community through her work in housekeeping at Parkland Health Center, formerly known as Farmington Community Hospital. Earlier in her career, she brought joy and warmth to customers as a waitress at Federal IGA and Brown Shoe Company.
A gentle spirit, Virgie found immense joy in spending time with her family. In her leisure time, Virgie loved eating sweets and drinking her Cokes. She was known for her sweet tooth. Virgie also enjoyed engaging in word search puzzles, a pastime that brought her peace and satisfaction.
Virgie is survived by her son, Richard Shibley (Nancy Compton); grandchildren, Lisa (Tony) Mengwasser, Jeff (Tina) Umfleet, Donna Armenta, Denise Snow, Cindy Shibley, Alex (Brandi) Shibley, Rikki Shibley and Alyx Shibley; great-grandchildren, Zachary (Lauren) Thomas, Joshua Thomas, Kelsey Mengwasser, Kayla (Larry) Pratte, Kyle (Annette) Mengwasser, Jackson Umfleet, Emma Umfleet, Macey Osborn, Geoffrey Osborn, Ryan Klein, Ryker Shibley, Addyson Shibley, Reece Shibley, Devin Shibley, Colton Rohlic and Lilly McKee; great- great grandchildren, Henry Thomas, Michael Shibley, Braxton Shibley, Katie and Olivia Pratte, Skye Mengwasser along with other friends and family.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 26, 2025, at C. Z. Boyer & Son Funeral Home in Desloge from 10:00 AM until service time of 11:00 AM with Pastor Josiah Muncy officiating. Burial to follow at Adams Cemetery in Frankclay. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Virgie’s memory to Serenity Hospice.
Virgie’s family wishes to thank Southbrook Nursing Center for her wonderful care the last 3-1/2 years. They are also thankful for the amazing staff of Serenity Hospice, especially Randi, Stacy and Sydney.
