Virgil Wayne Whitwell, aged 84, of Bonne Terre, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2025, at Mercy South in St. Louis. Born on February 25, 1941, in St. Louis to the late Virgil A. and Veral (Chandler) Whitwell, Virgil lived a life filled with love, passion, and dedication. A devoted family man, Virgil treasured his time spent with loved ones, consistently sharing moments that created cherished memories. A true enthusiast of classic cars, he delighted in the craftsmanship and stories behind each vehicle. Virgil’s heart was equally shared with his beloved dogs, whose loyalty and companionship brought him immense joy throughout his life. Virgil was proud of his career with Teamsters Local #610, dedicating several years of his life until retiring. His strong work ethic and commitment were a testament to his character.
He was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife, Patricia (O’Brien) Whitwell; two grandchildren, Thomas and Timothy Niccum; one brother, John Stallings and stepfather, Clete Stallings.
Virgil is survived by five children, Vickie Ramsey and husband Rickie, Cheryl Mitchell and husband Dan, Betty Niccum and husband Jody, Michael Whitwell and wife Alicia, Matthew Whitwell and wife Kristin; grandchildren, Deanna Hite, Paul (Makayla) Ramsey, Daniel (Bree) Mitchell, Josh Mitchell, Dawn (Bryan) Rankins, Savannah Ivie, Alaena (Justin) Tyler, Katelyn Niccum, Chelsea (Jeremiah) Vandergraph, Jacob, Logan and Mackenzie Whitwell, Amanda, Ryan, Warren and Amelia Whitwell; twenty-four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Raymond Whitwell and wife Liz, Jean Hawkins and husband Raymond; several nieces, nephews, other family members and friends also survive.
Visitation will be held at C.Z. Boyer and Son Funeral Home in Desloge, Thursday, October 23, 2025, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. The visitation will resume Friday, October 24, 2025, from 9:00 AM until the service time of 11:00 AM with Pastor Russell Dotson officiating. Interment will follow at Bonne Terre Cemetery.
Virgil’s warmth, kindness, and lasting impact will continue to resonate in the hearts of those who were fortunate to meet him. As we say goodbye to a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, we carry forward the memories that make him undeniably special.
