Wendell "Pete" Byrd

Wendell “Pete” Byrd, age 81, of Bonne Terre, passed away Saturday, September 23, 2023, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Pete was born on Friday, January 9, 1942, in Cantwell to the late Homer and Rosemary (Thomere) Byrd. He was also preceded in death by his son, David Abney and a sister Brenda Rose Harrison.

Pete served his country in the United States Air Force. He enjoyed watching dirt racing and all sporting events. He also enjoyed being able to go fishing when he was able. He was of Baptist faith.

Pete is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Brenda (Betke) Byrd; children, Tammy Sparks and husband Donald, Sherry Abney (Leean Couch), Scott Byrd and wife Debbie; five grandchildren, Casandra Sparks, Paden Sparks, Amanda Byrd-Peery and husband Chance, Sara Byrd and Avery Abney; two great-grandchildren, Emerson Welch and Harley Jo Goggin along with other family and friends.

Visitation will be held at C.Z. Boyer & Son Funeral Home in Bonne Terre on Thursday, September 28, 2023, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Visitation will resume on Friday, September 29, 2023, at the funeral home from 9:00 AM until service time of 11:00 AM. Burial to follow at Bonne Terre Cemetery in Bonne Terre. Memorials can be made in Pete’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
