Zelma Marie Gibbons, born on Wednesday, July 20, 1938, in St. Louis, Missouri, passed away peacefully on her 87th birthday, Sunday, July 20, 2025. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, whose warmth and compassion touched the lives of everyone around her. Marie, as she was fondly known, spent 52 wonderful years married to the love of her life, Jack, and is now reunited with him in heaven.
Her commitment to family was unmatched; she is survived by her daughters, Jackie (Randy) Cook, Janet Gibbons, and Carla Cotner, as well as her daughter-in-law Roxanne Hood. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Tonya (Frank) Thomas, Travis (Megan) Hood, Alicia (Tim) Frohbiter, Scott Nickelson, and Cathy (Robert) Dannenbrink, along with her 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Marie was also a loving sister to her brothers, Buddy (Joyce) Browers, Emsley (Annis) Browers, Jim Browers, Roger (Fern) Browers, and Eddie (Joyce) Browers.
A proud member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW 6883, Marie had a deep passion for cooking and loved to bring people together through her culinary skills. Known for her bright and colorful clothing, she always radiated positivity and happiness wherever she went. In her 60s, she pursued her dreams by attending the police academy. In her spare time, she enjoyed crafting, painting and collecting ceramic shoes. She had many creative outlets that reflected her vibrant personality and love for beauty. Marie took immense pride in her home nurturing her flowers, their vibrance a perfect reflection of her own personality. As a caregiver, she was a steady source of comfort and compassion. Her devotion to her family was unwavering, and her love knew no bounds.
As we remember Marie Gibbons, let us honor her by living with the same passion for life, generosity of spirit, and deep love for those around us. She touched many lives and leaves behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and joy. She will be missed dearly but will forever shine in our hearts.
